Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Deluxe Edition is an enhanced and updated version of the Dragon Ball Xenoverse game, developed by Dimps and released by Bandai Namco Entertainment in Japan in April of 2021. The main difference is that the first one had several endings while the second only had a single conclusion. The reason for that is that its fans did not receive the second one as the first one due to some minor problems such as some cut scenes and some misunderstandings in the story. However, the result was still satisfying enough. In this review, I will go over the positives and negatives of the game to help you make your decision if it is worth buying or not.
First of all, I believe it is essential to mention that Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a faithful recreation of the Japanese version of Dragonball, which was initially made for Japanese TV. It follows the story of Goku, who was an average kid who was looked down upon because he was small. His father was a well-known surgeon who used to perform surgery on planets, but his son lost his life in a plane crash one day. Ever since then, Goku has been determined to exact revenge on his enemies.
Now that he is an adult, Goku has become a much stronger fighter. He gains more power and even acquires more powerful friends to help him in his quest. In this game, you can play as either Goku or his strongest warrior opponent, Piccolo. There are various improvements made from the original so expect to find more powerful fighters and higher ranks.
The storyline involves a new threat appearing called the Frieza Empire. Frieza is an evil character who uses his six-finger toes to attack his enemies. His attacks consist mainly of grabbing you and then throwing you out of the screen or sending you flying through the air. You will want to avoid his attacks and defeat him fast in this game. There are several collectibles included in the package that you can obtain throughout your gameplay.
One of the most excellent parts of the game is the voice of Goku and his unforgettable dialogues with his friends and enemies. His grand transformation follows this into a Super Saiyawoman. Aside from his great physical strength, his powers are increased by achieving the form called the Super Saiyan. There are several other unlockables and enhancements included in the package. The graphics have been greatly improved, so expect a better-looking game when playing this one.
Another feature present in the package is the short but sweet storyline involving your hero and his companions. It’s full of humor and drama. The characters are animated and come to life during gaming. The enemies you face are equally as calm and composed as Goku and his allies.
Xenoverse offers an addicting collection of games that can be played by multiple players online. If you were bored by the previous versions, then this version is certainly worth a try. It also has some nice add-ons which give you a taste of the other downloadable items for Dragon Ball Z. These include the Shenzu Beans and other things such as the Slots.
In my opinion, the graphics and the storyline were both enjoyable to experience. The Dragon Ball Z Special Edition has just about everything I had hoped for. It’s full of action, fun, and even emotional moments. It’s an excellent game to play that doesn’t have a lot of lengthy missions or a lot of competition compared to other versions. The game is available for Nintendo DSiWare and can be downloaded for the PSP.
