Ape Escape 2, referred to in Japan as Saru Get You 2(Saru Got You), is a top-rated platform survival game with excellent gameplay. It is, however, different from its predecessors, Ape Escape, in that it is not entirely focused on solving puzzles or unlocking secrets. Instead, it deals with surviving a certain amount of time and the exploration and puzzle-solving that comes with it.
The story of Ape Escape 2 surrounds a group of alien space creatures that crash-landed on Earth. Naturally, they were going to bring along some weaponry with them. They were given a lot of high-tech gadgets by the government, including an experimental spaceship known as the Arwing. Unfortunately, this Arwing was never finished, and it has been said that it could only fit two people inside. Thus, the aliens then decided to take over the government building, which meant only two people could be inside at any given time – and they needed to either find another way out or use the weapons and gadgets that they had to kill all of the humans on the ship. Thus, the first part of the game involves surviving a series of missions. All meant to get you to the final boss fight. While there is a definitive list of objectives to completing each level in Ape Escape, much of the game’s fun comes from uncovering the true nature of these objectives, which then unlock additional and more challenging levels to fight even more difficult bosses.
If you die, you lose one life and are forced to start over again, moving forward with just a few lost lives (though you will always be able to choose how many). Thus, it would help if you found new gadgets and weapons to level up quickly, and you also have to earn money by engaging in mini-games and puzzles to purchase items and gadgets. It’s an exciting combination of fun and logic that keeps Ape Escape 2 from getting stale, despite taking a fundamental premise and turning it into something genuinely involving and exciting. Plus, the PlayStation 4 version is a joy to play, offering bright colors and great gameplay that is fun and visually appealing.
In our review of Ape Escape 2, we found that a variety of things make this game much different from the original. First, you have to kill as many monkeys as you can before they escape from the cage. Once you’ve done that, it becomes a puzzle simply in that you have to figure out which ones will stay alive and which will die. For those that don’t think they’re pretty that clever, the overall difficulty curve isn’t too high, but it is enough to give anyone who wants a challenge something to keep them occupied for a little while. As well, for the game to feel like a true adventure, you’ll have to purchase all the weapons, chests, upgrades, etc… not only from inside the cage but also on the world map, making this game feel like it has its momentum.
Speaking of momentum, Ape Escape 2 has it where none of the previous game’s predecessors did. This time around, you get to level up fast by earning points used to purchase weapons, power-ups, etc… You even have unlockable mini-games that you can play after you’ve beaten the previous levels, like the classic ‘gotcha box’ game. These mini-games, combined with all the stuff in the main game, really help make Ape Escape 2 feel like a complete game. While it doesn’t have the variety of the other games, it has its high points. We’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best puzzle games out on the market.
One of the most incredible things about Ape Escape 2 is deviating from the original Ape Escape game. The first game had you navigating your way through an island by walking from side to side. In Ape Escape 2, you’ll be greeted by a jungle environment that’s jam-packed with puzzles to solve. Some of them are simple, like rotating a dot on the screen to make a maze, but others require more logic than that. For example, you’ll have to get the platform between two platforms by jumping horizontally, vertically, or by walking through beams on the medium to make it pass through the platform.
With all this freedom and variety, we have to figure out whether or not the game is any good. Ape Escape 2 follows a similar gameplay style to its predecessors, but it adds some fresh mechanics to make it fun. The game has better voice acting than the first game, which helps take the adventure to another level. Overall, this is a fun game that anyone can play, but if you haven’t played the original Ape Escape game, you might want to check it out.
The voice acting and gameplay may not be everything you’re looking for in an online action game, but it’s something. The story is just as exciting as the gameplay, and Ape Escape 2 is just as well. If you like the first game, you’ll probably like Ape Escape 2 as well. For those who haven’t played it, Ape Escape is an entertaining game that provides many hours of entertainment. Those looking for a game that will keep them entertained for many hours might also enjoy Ape Escape 2.
